Spotify has introduced a new running mode for its mobile app, designed to enhance the workout experience for runners. Launching in 2026, the feature dynamically curates songs based on different phases of a run, selecting tracks that align with user preferences and tempo needs. Paying subscribers can access the running mode via the Fitness Hub, where they can choose from 25 presets. Options include interval runs, steady runs, and pyramid workouts, with the ability to customize duration, beats per minute (BPM), and music genre. The mode also provides audio cues for various stages of the run—currently available only in English. This feature builds on Spotify’s AI-driven prompted playlists, which have been in testing since 2025. The company observed that many users leverage these playlists for fitness, inspiring the dedicated running mode. Earlier in 2026, Spotify expanded its fitness ecosystem by partnering with Peloton to offer integrated workout content. The launch follows Strava’s announcement that its Record feature would no longer support Spotify integration, underscoring Spotify’s push to offer standalone fitness tools. Starting Wednesday, the running mode is available to Premium subscribers on iOS in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and Sweden.
