Gemini Call for Me Might Tell Your Mom You're Running Late

A rumored Android update would automate personal phone calls with Gemini AI.

Google's Gemini AI may soon be able to make phone calls on your behalf β€” including the awkward ones. According to a rumored Android update, a new feature called "Call for Me" could let Gemini handle personal calls, from scheduling appointments to letting your mom know you're running late.

The feature, reportedly spotted in an early Android build, would extend Gemini's existing call-handling capabilities beyond businesses and into your personal contacts. Instead of manually dialing and delivering news yourself, you could simply ask Gemini to make the call and relay a message.

How Call for Me Could Work

Based on the rumored implementation, Call for Me would integrate directly with Android's phone app and Gemini's voice assistant. A user might say something like, "Call my mom and tell her I'll be 20 minutes late," and Gemini would place the call, speak on your behalf, and potentially report back with a summary.

This builds on Google's existing AI calling features, such as the Pixel's Call Screen and Duplex technology, which have historically focused on screening unknown callers and booking reservations. Call for Me appears to be a more personal, conversational extension β€” one that could handle the kind of casual, relationship-driven calls many people dread.

Why It Matters in 2026

By 2026, AI assistants have moved well beyond simple voice commands. Google, Apple, and Samsung have all invested heavily in on-device AI that can anticipate user needs, manage schedules, and even communicate on their behalf. Gemini's Deep Research and Live features already handle complex tasks, and Call for Me fits neatly into that trajectory.

For users juggling work, family, and social obligations, an AI that can make a quick courtesy call could be a genuine time-saver. It also raises familiar questions about authenticity and etiquette: Is it appropriate to let an AI speak for you in personal relationships? And will your mom even notice?

Privacy and Practical Concerns

As with any AI feature that touches personal communications, privacy is a central concern. Google would need to ensure that call data, transcripts, and contact information are handled securely and transparently. Users would likely want granular control over which contacts Gemini can call and what it's allowed to say.

There's also the question of consent. In many regions, recording or transcribing calls requires all parties to agree. Google will need to navigate these legal landscapes carefully, especially if Gemini is summarizing calls for later review.

What's Next

Google has not officially confirmed Call for Me, so treat the rumor with appropriate skepticism. However, given the company's rapid AI rollout across Android and Pixel devices, an official announcement could come as early as Google I/O 2026.

If the feature does launch, it may mark another step toward a future where AI assistants don't just answer questions β€” they make the calls you'd rather avoid.
