Meta Introduces ‘AI Mode’ on Facebook, Pulling Answers from Public Content Across Its Platforms

June 2026 – As Meta accelerates its efforts to compete in the AI landscape and drive engagement with its chatbot, the company announced a suite of new AI features for Facebook on Monday. These tools aim to transform how users discover information, create content, and interact with the platform.

AI Mode: A New Way to Search Facebook

The centerpiece of the announcement is “AI Mode,” a revamped search experience that leverages Meta AI to deliver synthesized answers derived from public posts across Facebook—including Groups and Reels. Instead of sifting through a list of search results, users can type a question in natural language and receive a concise summary based on real discussions happening on the platform.

This feature builds on the quiet launch of Forum, a Reddit-style app Meta debuted in May 2026. Forum includes its own “Ask” tab, which similarly allows users to pose questions and retrieve answers drawn from conversations within Facebook Groups.

Reliability Concerns Persist

Both AI Mode and Forum’s Ask tab raise a familiar concern: the accuracy of answers generated from public posts and group discussions. Since the AI summarizes content from everyday users—not vetted sources—there is a tangible risk of outdated or misleading information appearing in responses. This echoes similar criticisms of Google’s AI Mode on Reddit, where trust in aggregated user content has been questioned.

Creative AI Tools for Content Creation

Beyond search, Facebook has introduced new editing features designed to enhance video montages. Users can now experiment with collage cutouts and transition effects. Additionally, AI-powered photo presets let users change their look by swapping clothes, hairstyles, and accessories.

For example, sports fans can virtually wear their favorite team jerseys by tapping the “AI Edit” icon in Stories and selecting “Wear It.” Alternatively, they can access their profile picture, choose “Restyle profile picture with AI,” and then “Wardrobe” to apply the effect.

Expanding AI Integration

These updates add to a growing list of AI-powered features on Facebook, underscoring Meta’s broader push to embed artificial intelligence more deeply into its ecosystem. As the company continues to refine these tools, it faces the dual challenge of maintaining user trust while competing with rivals like Google in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
