Two years after the Rabbit R1—a dedicated AI hardware device—made waves and then faced skepticism, the company is back with a different approach. Rabbit has announced OS3, a cross-platform AI agent app that runs on the devices you already own: your phone, tablet, and computer.
The move marks a significant strategic shift. When the Rabbit R1 launched in 2024, it promised to bypass traditional mobile apps entirely, offering a voice-first assistant in a pocket-sized device. While it garnered attention for its bold vision, it also drew criticism for limited functionality and reliance on cloud services.
Now, with OS3, Rabbit is embracing the platforms it once sought to replace. The app is designed to be a universal AI agent, capable of performing tasks across different operating systems and applications. According to the company, OS3 will leverage advances in large language models and agentic AI to handle complex, multi-step actions—from scheduling and email management to online shopping and travel bookings—without requiring users to switch between apps.
"We realized that the future isn't about replacing your phone—it's about making it work better," a Rabbit spokesperson said in a statement. "OS3 brings the power of an AI agent to every screen, meeting people where they are."
The announcement comes amid a broader industry trend toward agentic AI. In 2026, major tech companies are racing to integrate AI agents into their ecosystems, with Apple, Google, and Microsoft all rolling out agent-based features. Rabbit hopes to differentiate by offering a truly cross-platform solution that isn't tied to a single ecosystem.
Early beta testers report a mixed experience. The app excels at simple tasks like setting reminders and drafting messages, but struggles with more complex workflows that require deep integration with third-party services. Privacy concerns also linger, as OS3 requires extensive permissions to function effectively.
