During July 2026, GitHub maintained an overall availability of 99.95%, with no major public outages. Two minor incidents were recorded, each lasting under 30 minutes, affecting a small subset of users. These incidents were promptly resolved, and preventive measures have been implemented.
Incidents
Incident 1: Intermittent API Errors (July 14, 2026)
On July 14, from 14:32 to 14:58 UTC, some users experienced intermittent 500 errors when accessing the REST API. The issue was traced to a misconfiguration in the load balancing layer during a routine update. The misconfiguration was rolled back, and API performance returned to normal. We have since improved our configuration validation processes to prevent recurrence.
Incident 2: Webhook Delivery Delays (July 22, 2026)
On July 22, from 19:15 to 19:37 UTC, webhook deliveries were delayed by up to 10 minutes for a small percentage of repositories. This was caused by a network congestion event in one of our regional data centers. Traffic was rerouted, and the delay was resolved. We have added additional network capacity and failover mechanisms to mitigate future congestion.
Performance and Improvements
Throughout July, GitHub continued to invest in infrastructure reliability. Key improvements included:
