A Compelling Alternative to the Steam Deck
As we move through 2026, the handheld gaming PC market has matured considerably, and Lenovo's SteamOS-powered Legion Go S has emerged as one of the strongest contenders to Valve's own Steam Deck. Right now, it's available at a substantial discount—hundreds of dollars off its standard asking price—making it an even more attractive proposition for anyone considering a portable PC gaming device.
Why the Legion Go S Stands Out
The Legion Go S distinguishes itself from the base Steam Deck OLED in several meaningful ways:
- Double the RAM: Where the entry-level Steam Deck OLED ships with 16GB, the Legion Go S offers 32GB, giving it more headroom for demanding titles and multitasking.
- Double the storage: The base Steam Deck OLED includes 512GB of SSD storage; the Legion Go S doubles that to 1TB, so you can keep more games installed without reaching for an SD card.
- A faster processor: Lenovo's handheld packs a slightly more powerful AMD chip, which translates to smoother frame rates in many titles and a bit more future-proofing as 2026's game releases grow more demanding.
Comfort and Ergonomics
Beyond raw specs, the Legion Go S has earned praise for its comfortable, well-balanced design. Its controller layout and grip feel natural during extended play sessions—an important consideration for a device you'll likely hold for hours at a time. Running Valve's SteamOS means you get the same polished, console-like interface and seamless Steam integration that Steam Deck owners enjoy, including the growing library of Steam Deck Verified titles.
The Verdict
With double the RAM and storage of the base Steam Deck OLED, plus a faster processor, the Legion Go S at this discounted price represents excellent value. If you've been waiting for the right moment to jump into SteamOS handheld gaming—or to upgrade from an older device—this deal is well worth considering.
