Overview
Apple's newest Apple TV 4K has arrived, and it brings a meaningful upgrade over its predecessor. With a faster processor, improved wireless connectivity, and β for the first time β built-in microphones, this generation aims to make the Apple TV a more central part of your smart home setup. In 2026, as Apple continues to push deeper into the living room with Apple Intelligence and Matter-based smart home integration, the new Apple TV 4K arrives as a key piece of that strategy.
If you're ready to pick one up, here's where you can preorder the new Apple TV 4K ahead of its official release.
What's New in the Latest Apple TV 4K
- More power: A next-generation Apple silicon chip delivers faster navigation, smoother gaming, and better performance across apps and services.
- Better wireless connectivity: Enhanced Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support means more reliable streaming, lower latency, and improved responsiveness.
- Built-in microphones: The new model can listen for voice commands directly, extending Siri functionality beyond the remote β a notable shift as Apple leans further into hands-free, home-wide interaction.
- Tighter ecosystem integration: Deeper hooks into Apple Intelligence, HomeKit, and Matter make the new Apple TV 4K a stronger smart home hub.
Where to Preorder
Preorders are available through major retailers, including:
- Apple.com β Direct from Apple, with options for trade-in and financing.
- Best Buy β Often bundles gift cards or offers exclusive promotions.
- Amazon β Frequently matches Apple's pricing with fast shipping for Prime members.
- Walmart and Target β Competitive pricing and in-store pickup options.
Pricing and availability vary by retailer, so it's worth comparing storage configurations and any bundled offers before placing your order.
Should You Upgrade?
If you're coming from an older Apple TV HD or an early 4K model, the jump in performance and connectivity is substantial. The addition of built-in microphones also signals Apple's broader ambition to make the Apple TV a true smart home command center β a theme that's only accelerated in 2026.
For those with a recent Apple TV 4K, the upgrade is less urgent, though the improved wireless performance and future-ready features may still appeal if you're invested in Apple's smart home ecosystem.
