Google is giving Pokémon fans a new reason to wear a Fitbit. On Thursday, the company announced a special-edition Fitbit Air that works with Pokémon Sleep, combining Fitbit’s health and fitness tracking with the sleep-focused Pokémon game. The announcement marks a fitting tribute as Pokémon celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.
Pokémon Sleep first launched in 2023, turning the nightly routine into a playful game. Players earn in-game rewards for hitting their bedtime goals, while the quality and duration of sleep directly influence their progress. You start with a large, sleepy Snorlax; the more you sleep, the more “Drowsy Power” it accumulates, attracting a wider variety of Pokémon to discover.
The Fitbit Air adds a new layer to this experience. It syncs seamlessly with both the Google Health app and Pokémon Sleep, allowing users to track daily movement, heart rate, and cardio load during the day, then automatically records sleep duration and quality overnight.
This isn’t the first wearable compatible with Pokémon Sleep—the app already supports several devices, including the Apple Watch, other Fitbit models, Galaxy Watch, and Pixel Watch. However, many players still enjoy the game without any wearable at all.
For Pokémon’s 30th anniversary, this crossover is particularly clever. It transforms an everyday activity into a deeper engagement with the franchise, while giving Google a fun, approachable way to make health tracking more appealing. Google has also recently partnered with athlete Stephen Curry on a special edition Pixel Watch, priced at $579, featuring an exclusive workout-focused design.
The special-edition Pokémon Sleep Fitbit Air is available for preorder at $129 and begins shipping on September 15. It will be sold online and in stores via the Google Store and Target.
The standard Fitbit Air, introduced in May, remains available at $99. It boasts a slimmer design, enhanced health and fitness tracking, and an AI-powered coach that offers personalized guidance based on users’ activity, sleep, and wellness data.
