Waymo Opens Dallas Robotaxi Service to All Users
Autonomous vehicle company Waymo has eliminated the waitlist for its robotaxi service in Dallas, making it available to all residents and visitors. This move is part of Alphabet-owned Waymo's broader strategy to scale its self-driving technology across the United States, Europe, and the United Kingdom.
On Tuesday, Waymo announced that anyone can now download the app and immediately hail a robotaxi in Dallas. The service, however, does not yet cover Dallas Love Field Airport, as the company continues to test its autonomous vehicles there and expects to offer airport rides "soon."
Waymo's presence in Dallas dates back to last year, when it began public road testing and unveiled plans to launch the service in 2026. In collaboration with Avis Budget Group, Waymo manages a fleet of all-electric Jaguar I-Pace vehicles. Avis handles depot operations, including vehicle charging and maintenance.
The service initially went public in February with a waitlist, during which approximately 150,000 riders used the Waymo app. Following its standard expansion playbook—previously applied in Phoenix, Los Angeles, and San Francisco—Waymo has now removed the waitlist entirely.
The Dallas rollout has not been without challenges. In May, Waymo temporarily suspended operations in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and Atlanta due to difficulties with heavy rain and flood conditions. Services have since resumed, but Waymo notes that it may adjust or pause operations during severe weather or flood warnings. Riders can monitor service status through the Waymo app.
