In a landmark move that marks its first acquisition since going public last month, Bending Spoons announced on Tuesday that it has agreed to acquire Airtable, a leading spreadsheet and database startup, for $1.28 billion in cash. Founded in 2013, Airtable has raised over $1.4 billion across multiple funding rounds. At its peak during the 2021 tech boom, the company was valued at over $11 billion. However, earlier this year, its shares were reportedly trading on secondary markets at a valuation of just $4 billion, reflecting a significant downturn in the sector. Bending Spoons noted that, with Airtable's current net cash and cash equivalents, the company is now valued at approximately $2.25 billion. "Airtable is a pioneering brand that is reshaping how teams organize data and manage critical workflows. The value being delivered is reflected in annual recurring revenue growing over 20% year-over-year to approximately $480 million as of June 2026. Joining forces with Bending Spoons will accelerate innovation even further," said Luca Ferrari, founder of Bending Spoons, in a statement. In January 2026, Airtable launched a new product line under the 'Superagent' moniker—an orchestration platform that allows users to deploy teams of AI agents to automate tasks. At that time, CEO Howie Liu highlighted that Airtable serves over 500,000 organizations, including 80% of the Fortune 100. Bending Spoons, which went public at an $18 billion valuation in July 2026, typically acquires companies trading at a significant discount to their private valuations. The firm then trims staff, streamlines products, and focuses on profitability. Notable past acquisitions include Evernote, WeTransfer, Eventbrite, and Vimeo. This deal underscores Bending Spoons' strategy of acquiring established tech brands at attractive prices and leveraging its operational expertise to drive growth and innovation.
