Chamath Palihapitiya Raises $135M Series A for AI Coding Startup 8090 Labs, Takes CEO Role

Chamath Palihapitiya, the venture capitalist best known for founding Social Capital and co-hosting the All-In podcast, announced on Monday that his AI coding startup has secured a substantial Series A funding round. The company, 8090 Labs, closed a $135 million round led by Salesforce Ventures, with participation from Jeffrey Katzenberg’s WndrCo, David Sacks’ Craft Ventures, and fellow All-In hosts David Friedberg (The Production Board) and Jason Calacanis (Launch). Angel investors included Palo Alto Networks CEO Nikesh Arora and Quora CEO Adam D’Angelo. Palihapitiya founded 8090 Labs in January 2024 to develop an AI coding agent tailored for enterprise programming teams. Its flagship product, Software Factory, enables corporate developers to build production-quality software using AI—moving beyond quick prototypes to deliver robust, audit-ready code with enterprise-grade controls like audit trails. With this funding, Palihapitiya also announced on X that he will assume the role of CEO, transitioning from his previous position as a board member. He drew parallels between the current AI boom and the rise of social media during his early tenure at Facebook (now Meta). “Since I left Facebook, I was waiting for a moment like this to return to a full-time operating role,” he wrote. “I am convinced that what we are building now is even more important, so there was no decision to make except to be all in.” As of 2026, the enterprise AI coding market continues to expand rapidly, with companies like 8090 Labs competing alongside GitHub Copilot, Replit, and other players focused on bringing AI-driven development tools into secure, regulated environments.
