Pocket Raises $11M, Betting on Surging Demand for AI Note-Taking Gadgets
As the market for AI-powered gadgets continues to evolve in 2026, a new wave of dedicated hardware for recording and transcribing meetings is gaining traction—contrasting sharply with the struggles of general-purpose AI devices like Rabbit and Humane. While smartphones paired with note-taking apps remain a capable alternative, the demand for specialized, always-ready tools is driving growth. Startups such as Plaud, Mobvoi, Anker, Viaim, and Vibe have all entered the space, but Y Combinator–backed Pocket believes it can stand out through design, packaging, and pricing.
Pocket sells a credit card–sized puck for $129 that attaches magnetically to the back of a phone. It offers unlimited recordings, transcriptions, and to-do lists—with no subscription required for basic use. The company reports having sold over 130,000 units since launching last year, and this momentum helped it secure $11 million in funding from Accel, Y Combinator, and ElevenLabs CEO and co-founder Mati Staniszewski.
Pocket’s core functionality is straightforward: users stick the puck to their phone, start recording during a meeting, and the device captures and transcribes conversations. The accompanying mobile app then allows users to generate meeting summaries, ask an AI assistant questions about the content, create mind maps, and convert text into various templates.
For more advanced features, Pocket offers a $200-per-year plan that unlocks unlimited AI summaries, queries to the AI assistant, daily highlights, and file attachments.
“You can record on the go, offline, and in the field, which is exactly how lawyers, salespeople, doctors, real estate agents, construction workers, and students use Pocket today,” said Accel partner Cecilia Wang. “Not only are people present rather than shifting focus to take notes, but more information and insights also get captured than ever before, which otherwise would have been lost. Over time, that accumulation of insights is really valuable: one central place where your ideas, conversations, and thoughts live, rather than scattered and lost.”
In a crowded market, Pocket’s emphasis on a minimalist, subscription-lite model and a strong focus on real-world use cases positions it as a contender for the growing audience seeking dependable, AI-enhanced note-taking hardware in 2026.
