Nothing CEO Carl Pei Says the Company's Mysterious AI-First Device Arrives Next Month
Nothing, the smartphone startup behind the distinctive Nothing Phone, is working on an AI product — but exactly what it is remains unclear.
A Screenless, Non-App "Productivity Tool"
On Wednesday, CEO Carl Pei posted on X that the company's first "AI-native product" will ship in December. "It's a tool, but one built with the personality and care that have come to define a Nothing product. It has no new screen, and it couldn't have been an app," Pei wrote.
Pei has teased an AI-first device for some time, and the company has also said that it plans to release a pair of AI-linked smart glasses, along with earbuds featuring AI integrations.
Pei Downplays the Wearables Angle
Pei's description points to a screenless, non-app AI device that he frames as a "productivity tool." Adding further intrigue to the announcement, he appears to downplay any connection to AI wearables.
"The whole industry is hunting for its iPhone moment: the pendant, the pin, the glasses, the companion, some magical consumer device that makes AI part of everyone's life," Pei wrote. "I admire the boldness, but I read this moment differently."
Release Timing
No firm release date has been announced beyond the December window, but Nothing fans should know soon enough what the company has in store for them — and whether this AI-native device carves out a new category of its own in an increasingly crowded 2026 AI hardware landscape.
