Chrome Expands AI Autofill with Gmail Integration

Google's Chrome browser is rolling out an AI-driven upgrade to its autofill capabilities. Announced on Wednesday, the enhanced autofill feature will help users complete online forms by pulling suggestions directly from their Gmail inbox.

What It Can Fill In

With this update, Chrome can suggest details you might otherwise have to hunt for, such as:

  • Flight confirmation numbers
  • Membership IDs
  • Tracking information
  • Order numbers
  • Addresses
  • Phone numbers
  • Credit card numbers

The browser generates these suggestions by referencing information contained in your email.

An Extension of Personal Intelligence

The update builds on Google's Personal Intelligence initiative, which already lets users connect their Google apps to the Gemini AI assistant. That connection allows Gemini to retrieve specific details and use them to answer complex questions.

While the change may seem minor, it could make Chrome meaningfully easier to use—giving users another reason to stay within Google's browser and its broader AI ecosystem. The feature echoes one of Apple's most appreciated conveniences: automatically detecting verification codes sent via text and displaying them above the keyboard so users can enter them with a single tap.

Privacy and Controls

As with other Personal Intelligence features, enhanced autofill is opt-in. Users can choose whether to enable it from their Chrome settings, and Google notes that sensitive data is encrypted.

Availability

The feature is rolling out first to U.S. users on desktop, as well as in the Gemini in Chrome experience on iOS and Android apps.
