Pinterest's AI Turns Beauty Pins Into Salon-Ready Action Plans
Pinterest on Tuesday unveiled a new feature that uses AI to transform saved beauty inspiration—such as hair and nail ideas—into practical, salon-ready action plans.
Dubbed "Beauty Guides," the feature is powered by Pinterest Intelligence, the company's visual intelligence and generative AI technology. It translates Pins into the professional terms and phrases used by stylists and nail artists—terms everyday users may not know, like "balayage," "root melt," or "almond nails."
The feature offers a small but practical way to bring AI into users' everyday lives by slotting into an existing behavior: bringing a photo of a desired look to the salon. Beyond simply identifying the style, having the right terminology on hand helps users discuss which parts of the look they want to edit or change.
Additionally, the guides provide planning information such as how long each part of the process may take and the expected cost. (Balayage can run into the hundreds of dollars, so that's information worth having upfront.)
How It Works
The action guides appear when users tap the "Get the Guide" button within the app. They then offer details about exactly what to ask for to achieve the same look, the time required, the price range, and maintenance requirements—such as how often you'll need to trim, tone, or touch up.
At launch, the feature works across Pins related to hairstyle, hair color, nail shape, and nail finish.
