Meta's Muse Gains Momentum
Meta is throwing its weight behind Muse, its new AI app, as adoption accelerates. The push intensified this week at the company's annual developer conference, Meta Connect, where Meta showcased a suite of upcoming features for the app. Early reviews have also been strong, praising Muse's polished design and the highly capable AI model powering it.
Downloads Climb Rapidly
At the start of the week, Muse had surpassed 2.5 million downloads since its September 8 launch. By Thursday, that figure had grown to more than 3.4 million, according to estimates from market intelligence firm Sensor Tower. These figures, however, are current only as of Thursday's estimates and may lag behind real-world adoption. They also do not yet reflect the full impact of the high-profile promotion Muse received at Meta Connect, where the company announced features including video chat with the Muse avatar, support for computer use on the Mac, a dedicated email address, additional partners and connectors, and plans for smart glasses integrations.
Estimates Vary Across Firms
Other market intelligence firms report similarly strong traction, though their numbers differ. Apptopia estimates Muse's total downloads to date at 4.3 million, with 2.6 million on iOS alone. (Muse is currently available only in the U.S. and Canada.) Appfigures, meanwhile, puts installs at roughly 2.3 million as of Thursday, split almost evenly between iOS and Android.
Daily Active Users Jump After Meta Connect
Sensor Tower also tracked daily active users for Muse following Meta Connect and found that the figure climbed 27% on Wednesday after the event concluded.
Strong Early Growth Outpaces Rivals
Even before the conference, Muse was off to a fast start. Sensor Tower estimates the app reached 2.8 million downloads in its first two weeks on the app stores. During that period (September 8 to September 17), Muse averaged 55% day-over-day growth in downloads. By comparison, ChatGPT averaged 24% day-over-day download growth in its first 10 days after launch, while download growth for Claude and Grok declined during their respective launches.
App Store Dominance
On Friday, September 18, Muse climbed to the top of the U.S. App Store and has held that ranking since. It also reached the top spot on the Google Play Store on September 19 and remains there today.
