AI Compute Startup Nscale Seeks $3.5B in Pre-IPO Funding Ahead of Potential September Listing
Nscale, a British AI infrastructure company founded just two years ago, is reportedly in talks to raise an additional $3.5 billion ahead of its anticipated initial public offering (IPO), which could occur as early as later this month. The company has touted $51 billion in contracts and is targeting a September listing, according to Bloomberg.
Bloomberg reported on Friday that Nscale is seeking to sell $1.5 billion in convertible notes—a type of debt that can later convert into equity—to a group of investors. The company is also in discussions to secure an additional $2 billion in financing from Nvidia, a key player in the AI chip market.
Nvidia has been a notable backer of Nscale, having participated in the company’s $1.1 billion Series B funding round in March, which was led by investment fund Aker. Nscale described that round as “the largest Series B in European history.” The company’s earlier Series A round, held in December 2024, raised $155 million. TechCrunch has reached out to both Nscale and Nvidia for comment.
This funding activity comes amid a broader surge in AI infrastructure startups, as compute capacity has become a highly competitive asset in the industry. Nscale has recently signed a major deal with Anthropic, valued at approximately $45 billion, according to TechCrunch. Reports this week suggest that Nscale has been informing potential investors that it expects approximately $103 billion in revenue from that agreement, though this figure represents projected earnings based on signed customer leases rather than current sales, according to The Information.
