Crusoe Raises $3B at $30B Valuation, Eyes IPO
Crusoe, a developer of AI-focused data centers serving major clients like Meta, Microsoft, and OpenAI, has reportedly raised $3 billion in a new funding round, valuing the company at $30 billion, according to a Bloomberg report. The round is co-led by Atreides Management and Valor Equity Partners, with participation from Mubadala Capital, the asset management arm of Abu Dhabi’s sovereign wealth fund Mubadala.
This latest investment follows a period of rapid growth for Crusoe, which has pivoted from its origins as a crypto mining operation to become a major player in AI infrastructure. Notably, the company recently secured a massive five-year, $13 billion cloud contract to provide GPUs and AI infrastructure to quantitative trading firm Jane Street, as reported by Bloomberg. This deal underscores Crusoe’s expanding role in supporting high-performance computing needs across industries.
The new funding comes just ten months after Crusoe raised $1.38 billion at a $10 billion valuation in October. This dramatic tripling in valuation reflects soaring demand for AI data center capacity and the company’s strategic positioning to meet it. Crusoe, which launched in 2018 as a crypto mining operation powered by flared natural gas, has since transformed into a leading AI cloud provider, best known for developing hyperscale data center campuses for clients such as Oracle and OpenAI.
Looking ahead, Crusoe has reportedly been in discussions with investment bankers, including Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley, regarding a potential initial public offering in the near term, as noted by Axios in August. With this impressive funding round and a robust pipeline, Crusoe appears poised for continued expansion as it navigates the increasingly competitive AI infrastructure market.
