OpenAI Acquires Presentation Startup NextSlide
NextSlide, a startup specializing in AI-powered presentation creation, has announced it is joining OpenAI. The team is now integrated into OpenAI, focusing on enhancing ChatGPT's capabilities.
According to a note on the NextSlide website, founder Ahmed Beshry described the product as one "that could turn prompts, notes, documents, or research into a polished, editable presentation." He emphasized that the ultimate goal was "to make visual communication more accessible and help more people express their ideas clearly." By joining OpenAI, the team will "continue pursuing that same mission: building AI products that help people create, communicate, and turn their ideas into meaningful work."
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. In a LinkedIn post, Beshry revealed that the acquisition actually took place "earlier this year," with the announcement coming "a few months late." Beshry, who previously co-founded Caper AI—a smart cart and cashier-less checkout startup acquired by Instacart in 2021—brings significant entrepreneurial experience to his new role at OpenAI.
As of 2026, this acquisition aligns with OpenAI's broader strategy to expand ChatGPT's utility beyond text generation, integrating tools that support visual communication and productivity. This move is part of a trend where major AI companies are acquiring specialized startups to enhance their platforms, making them more versatile and user-friendly for both individual and enterprise users.
