Google has announced that its internal AI tools helped patch more security flaws in the Chrome browser in June 2026 than in the previous two years combined, marking a major milestone in automated vulnerability management. In a blog post on Thursday, the tech giant revealed that it fixed 1,072 security bugs across the latest two Chrome versions—both released in June. By comparison, the previous 23 versions, released over the last two years, addressed a total of 1,036 bugs. Since the rise of large language models (LLMs), cybersecurity experts have warned that AI-powered systems would discover exponentially more vulnerabilities, forcing defenders to adopt AI to stay ahead of attackers. That prediction is now becoming reality, backed by concrete data. A chart published by Google—part of a white paper on using AI to find and fix flaws faster—shows the sharp increase. For context, Chrome 126 was released in June 2024, while the latest two versions, Chrome 149 and 150, launched last month. Google refers to each major release as a “milestone.” Doug Turner, Chrome’s director of engineering, told TechCrunch that LLMs have “fundamentally shifted the economics of cybersecurity, transforming vulnerability discovery into an automated, industrial-scale operation.” He added, “By applying models like Gemini, we are preemptively fixing vulnerabilities, outpacing our adversaries and making Chrome safer with every update.” Google is not alone in this trend.
