Nous Research has introduced Bot Mode for its MIT-licensed, open-source agent, Hermes Agent. This new feature replaces the single-agent session list with a roster of named bots, each representing a full Hermes profile equipped with its own chat history, memory, skills, and pinned model. Bots can interact with one another through a persistent Agent Inbox and delegate tasks using @mention commands. Initially released as a one-day public beta plugin by co-founder Teknium, Bot Mode is now bundled and enabled by default in Hermes Desktop, starting with Hermes Agent v0.20.3.
Is It Deployable?
Yes โ today, on a desktop, at no licensing cost. Bot Mode is available as part of the Hermes Desktop application, accessible via Settings โ Plugins. Both the Hermes Agent and the Bot Mode plugin are MIT licensed, making them freely usable for personal and commercial projects.
Who can use it: Solo developers, startups, and small-to-medium engineering teams can adopt Bot Mode immediately. However, enterprises should view it as a workstation tool rather than managed infrastructure. The current version lacks an admin console, single sign-on (SSO), central audit logging, and policy enforcement. Organizations in regulated industries will need to implement their own governance and security controls around its use.
